• There was great tension between different ethnic groups.
• The Czech of the western part of the country were wealthier than the Slovaks of the east. 
• Slovaks complained that they were treated a second-class citizens. 
• 65 per cent of the popullation were Czech or Slovacks and there were 30 over 3 millon Germans,

• The Allied leaders hoped Czechoslovakia would provide a barrier between Austria and Germany.

Czechoslovakia (or Czecho-Slovakia;[1] Czech and Slovak: Československo, Česko-Slovensko)[2] was a sovereign state in Central Europe that existed from October 1918, when it declared its independence from the Austro-Hungarian Empire, until its peaceful dissolutioninto the Czech Republic and Slovakia on 1 January 1993.
From 1948 to 1990 Czechoslovakia had a command economy, which was disintegrated on January 1, 1991, in the form of "shock therapy", removing price controls after a period of preparation in 1990.
